CCC is hiring two Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist) positions to join its Technical Services Unit Ecology Group, with one to be based in Northern California and the other in Southern California. The Ecology Group supports the Commission and its staff with the review and analysis of proposed development regarding potential adverse impacts on coastal resources and conformance with Coastal Act natural resource policies, including those certified in Local Coastal Plans and similar planning efforts. Our work extends throughout the coastal zone and includes ecosystems ranging from offshore depths to forested ridgelines. Staff Ecologists work closely with regulatory and planning staff as well as specialists in other technical disciplines and staff on the transportation, legal, and enforcement teams. Among the many responsibilities, staff Ecologists provide robust analyses of technical documents, conduct site visits to evaluate on-the-ground ecological conditions, consult with staff and applicants to identify measures that facilitate Coastal Act consistency, coordinate with partners at other state and federal agencies, provide guidance on mitigation packages, develop technical memoranda, contribute to staff report conditions and legal findings, deliver testimony and support Commission deliberation at public meetings, participate in long-term planning efforts, and serve on technical advisory bodies.
