Position Volunteers Needed for 2018 Colonial Waterbird Program
Organization SFBBO
Date Posted 2018-01-02
Application Deadline Open until filled
Job Description (brief) Do you enjoy watching egrets, herons, and other waterbirds court, build nests, and raise their young? Do you want to contribute to an important avian science research project that has engaged citizen scientists for almost 40 years? Then our Colonial Waterbird Program is for you! In this program, volunteers (individuals, families, or students) are assigned their own colony and collect data once or twice a month on the number of adults, chicks, and nests of herons, egrets, terns, and other waterbird species at colonies around the Bay Area during the nesting season. The information they collect is analyzed by SFBBO biologists and shared in an Annual Report with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and in mini, colony-specific reports for land managers and others interested in the health and well-being of birds nesting in their neighborhoods. We are looking for volunteers to join our team for the 2018 nesting season. We are assigning colonies this month on a first-come, first served basis and will conduct our annual volunteer training on Jan. 20
